A beautiful tetradrachm from Syracuse signed by Parmenides

SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 405-367 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 25 mm, 17.29 g, 1 h), reverse die signed by Parmenides, circa 405-400. Charioteer driving quadriga galloping to left, holding kentron in his right hand and reins in his left; above, Nike flying right, crowning the charioteer with a wreath; below, detached chariot wheel; in exergue, grain ear. Rev. ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ Head of Arethusa to left, her hair in ampyx and sphendone, wearing triple-pendant earring and pearl necklace; around, four dolphins; below neck, ΠAP[ME]. BMC 212 (same reverse die). Boston MFA 416 (same reverse die). SNG ANS 287 (same reverse die). Tudeer 71 (25/49). Very rare. A nicely toned, bold and attractive example of this important signed issue. The reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, very fine.
